Privacy policy
Chef-It is a recipe and meal-planning service operated by AKH Software, LLC. This policy explains the information handled by our website and iPhone and iPad app, including beta versions.
Information we handle
- Account and access information: your email address, a hashed password, account identifier, household memberships, invitations, sessions, and connections you authorize.
- Your household’s content: recipes, ingredient and instruction text, source links, notes, categories, selected recipe photos, imported files, menus, meal plans, grocery lists, pantry entries, and preferences such as exclusions and disliked ingredients.
- Shopping records you choose to keep: shopping requests, proposals, reported outcomes, receipt details or evidence, and your confirmations. These are user or agent reports, not independent proof that a purchase happened.
- Operational information: IP addresses, request details, browser or device information, timestamps, errors, and security events processed by our service and hosting providers. Requests and logs can contain search terms or content sent to the service.
- Support messages: the contact details and information you choose to send us.
Recipe notes, imported files, and preferences may contain personal information you enter yourself. Only include information you want available to your household and any connections you authorize.
How we use information
We use this information to operate accounts, synchronize your household’s content, calculate ingredient needs, suggest meals using saved recipes and preferences, provide the features you request, protect the service, investigate problems, and respond to support requests.
Chef-It does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. We do not sell your personal information or use it to track you across other companies’ apps and websites for advertising.
Households, connections, and sharing
Household content is available to members of that household according to their access. Household owners manage membership and ownership.
If you authorize an external agent or app, it can access the information and actions covered by that permission. You can revoke connections in Settings. Revoking access prevents future authorized requests; it cannot retrieve copies already obtained by another service.
Meal-calendar subscriptions publish planned meals through a private link. Anyone with that link may be able to read the feed, so share it carefully and revoke it when no longer needed. Chef-It does not read your personal calendar events.
Exports and files you share are controlled by the destination you choose. External agents, calendar services, recipe-source websites, and retailers have their own privacy practices. Chef-It does not need your retailer password or payment-card details for a shopping handoff.
Service providers and Apple
Our infrastructure and service providers process information needed to host Chef-It, deliver network requests, maintain security, and handle support. Cloudflare provides website and network services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or to protect the service and its users.
Apple operates TestFlight and App Store distribution. For TestFlight betas, Apple shares testing information with us, including crashes, usage, device and build details, and feedback you submit. Invited testers may also be identified by their name and email address. We use this information to diagnose problems and improve Chef-It. Apple processes this information under its own terms and privacy practices.
On your device and in your browser
The app stores sign-in credentials in the device’s Keychain and keeps local recipe and household copies and pending edits to support offline use. Signing out removes the app’s local account copies and pending edits. Files already saved elsewhere are separate.
You choose individual photos to add using Apple’s photo picker. Chef-It does not request access to your whole photo library, contacts, location, or health data. Cooking timer alerts are optional local notifications; you can change notification permission in your device’s Settings.
The signed-in web app uses a session cookie for authentication and security. The sample on the marketing homepage runs locally in the page and does not send your sample searches or choices to our service. Visiting any website still sends network information, such as an IP address, to its hosting providers.
Your choices, retention, and deletion
You can edit your content, manage household access, revoke sessions and connections, and request an account export from Settings. Account exports omit secrets and do not embed photo bytes; recipe collection exports provide a separate way to export supported recipes and photos.
To delete your account, open Settings → Delete account and review the household choices. You must transfer ownership before leaving a shared household without another owner. Sole-member households selected for deletion are removed. Other members’ shared household content remains, including records you contributed.
Account deletion revokes access and replaces the account’s email and credentials. An account identifier can remain in shared-household history so those records stay consistent. We keep account and product information while needed to operate your account and household features; operational records and any backup copies have separate retention. Deleting your account does not remove exports, calendar copies, or data already held by other people or services.
For help accessing, correcting, exporting, or deleting information, contact privacy@chef-it.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
